ADU Expansion in NC:
It's time for the NCGA to act!

It’s time for the NC General Assembly to take action and address North Carolina’s growing housing crisis. North Carolinians have long been in need of more housing options, and by recognizing these needs, the legislature can begin to address the crisis, stimulate economic growth and support the evolving needs of NC residents.

Implementing supportive policies and regulations, such as encouraging the construction of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), is a critical step, and will enhance the quality of life for North Carolinians across the state.

A Smart Solution to Address the Housing Crisis

North Carolinians are being priced out of their homes. ADU’s present a creative, and smart solution for our state’s growing crisis, by increasing the available housing supply- alleviating challenges faced by many homebuyers.

A Catalyst for Economic Growth

Encouraging local communities to allow ADU construction will create job opportunities in the construction, and other related, industries. This boost to local economies can have a ripple effect, generating additional tax revenues for NC communities.

Increasing Demand

Our state is growing and the housing market is struggling to keep up with the unprecedented expansion. ADUs will provide an effective solution for both homeowners, and those in the housing market, by creating additional housing units within existing properties- working to alleviate the state’s housing shortage.

Keeping Every North Carolinian in Mind

As older homeowners start to age, separate living spaces are critical. ADUs give senior citizens the opportunity to maintain their independence and age in place. Expanding ADUs in NC will help build stronger communities and address these immediate housing needs.
